Snow in Atlanta!

We got hit with the worst storm Atlanta has seen in over 10 years.  The ice was really terrible and people had to sleep in their cars.  I called Paul every hour the morning they were calling for the storm and he finally agreed to come home early.  I was on my way to pick up the kids from school early and no joke, it had just started snowing and a truck was already upside down on the side of the road.  Atlanta drivers are not cut out for ice and snow.  Paul said he had left the office and that the traffic was getting pretty bad.  The kids and I waited patiently inside for the snow to accumulate so that we could go outside and play and the hours kept on ticking by.  Paul's work is 11 miles from our house.  By the time I got the kids suited up and ready to play out in the snow, I opened the garage door and there stood Paul in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt wearing a backpack.  His eyebrows had ice crystals caked on them and his face was bright red.  Paul ended up parking his car at the grocery store down the road from our house and ran home the rest of the way.  He had sat in traffic for over 5 hours just to go 8 miles!  He ran the last 3 miles home all while people were giving him crazy looks he said.  Better to be home then sitting in your car waiting for people to go nowhere.  We had a lot of fun playing in the snow for the next few days.  The entire city of Atlanta shut down and they called a State of Emergency.  People were stranded for over 2 days and cars were abandoned in the middle of highways.  All for about 6 inches of snow (well I guess there was a nice 2 inch sheet of ice), but still it was crazy that just that much snow and ice could shut down a city like that.  But hey, we are in the south!

I was at Kindergarten parent orientation and when Gavin and I got back to our car, this was how much snow had fallen so far.
Only this much snow, but cars were already going 20 MPH or slower and were swerving everywhere.
We made it home safe, parked our car at the top of our insanely steep driveway and the kids were SO excited!

 So were the pups!
We got in a little play time right when we got home.

 King of the mountain!

 Saying 'Hey Mom!'.
 First snow angel.

My little man was staying nice and close.
We came inside for a breath and the snow started to accumulate a bit.
Aaahhhh, best part of a snow storm...hot chocolate with marshmallows!
A little glimpse of what Paul was sitting in.
But, he made it home safely thank God!

We got our snowsuits on and were ready to do some serious sledding down the hill in our backyard!

This guy was picking up people walking on the street and drove them home with his four wheeler.  Good citizens.  :)

 Gavin's first snow storm!

To be continued...
